LeAnn Rimes “Shape” Cover Deemed “Terrible Mistake” By Editor

The editor apologized to her fans

Readers were all bent out of shape after LeAnn Rimes appeared on the cover of Shape magazine, given the country crooner’s home wrecking past.

On the October 2010 cover, Rimes smoldered in a barely-there red bikini, showing off her toned and beach-ready body. The shot triggered an avalanche of angry amails from readers who thought the magazine was making her look too sympathetic. Because of their complaints, Shape Editor in Chief Valerie Latona has issued an apology to fans via email.

"Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal -- but to show (through her story) how we are all human ... It did not come across that way ... And for that I'm terribly sorry," read the email, obtained by TooFab.

Latona went on to say that Rimes turned to exercise to get through her tough times. “[Rimes] found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment. But it did not come across that way ... And for that I'm terribly sorry.”

The 28-year-old singer was married to Dean Sheremet when she began seeing “CSI Miami” actor Eddie Cibrian, who was also married at the time. Rimes dumped Sheremet just as Cibrian divorced his wife, model Brani Glanville, leaving both jilted spouses bitter. Glanville, now a single mother of two sons, was arrested for DUI early Friday morning in Bevery Hills, People reported.

Rimes responded to the Shape affair Friday morning via Twitter, saying that she was getting to the bottom of the matter. “It's the first I've heard of this. Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the 3rd time.

“I find this very contradictory.”
