Things didn't turn out the way fans expected at a weekend gala with country music legend Randy Travis.

Travis collapsed on on stage Sunday night during a performance at Huguley Memorial Center's 18th annual Crystal Heart Gala.

His publicist said Travis was fighting laryngitis caused by chronic allergies and had taken multiple over-the-counter allergy medicines.

"During the performance, Mr. Travis was overcome by a combination of dehydration, over-the-counter allergy medications and caffeine use. This, combined with the heat of the stage lights, caused him to pass out," she said.

According to the Burleson Star, the singer was in the middle of singing his hit "Three Wooden Crosses" when he stopped and said something about his vocal cords giving out.

He then reportedly tried to join in again but stopped, stumbled and "pitched forward" onto the front of the stage, witnesses said.

Several doctors who were attending the gala jumped to help, the Burleson Star reports. Travis then walked off stage while giving a thumbs up.

His publicist said doctors evaluated Travis in his tour bus and his vital signs were all stable. He went home to recover and was resting Monday.

"Mr. Travis is fine and continues on his tour in celebration of his 25th anniversary," she said.

Sunday's gala was being held at the Renaissance Worthington Hotel in downtown Fort Worth.
