Beyoncé and Jay-Z Officially Announce Daughter's Birth

No mention of the hospital chaos rumors

In case Jay-Z's new single celebrating the birth of his first child didn't fully express how happy he and Beyoncé are, the iconic rapper and his superstar wife released a gushing statement Monday.

The birth of their daughter "was the best experience of both of our lives," the couple said according to People Magazine. "We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support."

Their baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter, was "delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs." they said. The couple described the birth as "emotional and extremely peaceful," but made no mention of reports that the attention they drew inside New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital blocked some parents from seeing their own newborns. Nor did it remark on rumors that Beyoncé had an entire hospital floor to herself.

A spokesperson from Lenox Hill, however, did chime in.

"The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true," Frank Danza, the hospital's executive director said in a statement quoted by People. "The family is housed in an executive suite at the hospital and is being billed the standard rate for those accommodations. Our executive suites are available for any patient, including the food service and amenities provided to the Carter family."

Danza denied that any families had trouble gaining access to the NICU and added that the hospital has "made every effort to ensure minimal disruption to other families experiencing the births of their own children over the past three days."
