Miley Marks Milestone With '80s Bash

Turns 17 days after family throws New York party

Miley Cyrus, who turns 17 on Monday, celebrated a little early with an '80s themed party in New York last week.

"The whole thing was a surprise," a source close to the Hannah Montana star told People. The party was held at the Canal Room in Lower Manhattan.

Miley, who was joined by family, friends and rumored beau Liam Hemsworth, enjoyed a performance by the cast of Broadway's "Rock of Ages" and a cake made by Buddy Valastro, star of TLC's "Cake Boss."

"They didn't want a girly girl cake," said Valastro, who crowned the vanilla cake with Madonna-inspired lace, a stage and accents in Cyrus's favorite color, purple. "It totally fit the theme. It was really awesome."

The party came days before Friday's highway accident in Virginia, in which the driver of one of Miley's tour buses died. The The singer was not on board the bus driven by William Douglas, 53, when it hit an embankment and flipped while traveling from Long Island, N.Y., to Greensboro, N.C.

"On Cyrus's website, her family said it was "deeply saddened by the loss of 'Uncle Bill,'" and that he would be missed.
