Aerosmith Might Replace Steven Tyler

Bandmates don't want him back in the saddle

Steven Tyler, frontman of Aerosmith, wants to focus on his solo career. Bandmembers are contemplating replacing Tyler with another lead singer.

Aerosmith may be the next classic rock band to go the way of Queen, Van Halen and Black Sabbath, soldiering on after replacing an iconic lead singer, according to NME.com.

In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler said he wanted to focus more on his solo career, saying, “I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself – Brand Tyler."

Fueling the breakup rumors, Tyler has also announced an upcoming solo event titled "Dream On, An Intimate Evening with Steven Tyler" debuting in January at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, N.H. He says he'll perform songs and play piano during the show but also talk about life on the road. At the end of the event, Tyler even said there will be a question-and-answer session.

It seems the increased tension between the band members started back in August at a concert in South Dakota. During a performance of "Love In An Elevator," Tyler was "Livin' On The Edge" of the stage. While dancing around, he fell off the stage and injured his head, neck and shoulders. His injuries led him to cancel the rest of the North American tour, much to the chagrin of his bandmates.

The band did play some recent shows in Hawaii and Abu Dhabi in October but Tyler and the rest of the band never actually saw each other until the curtains rose and the show began.

"All I know is he's got to get his act together. I mean, he and I haven't written a song together alone in the same room in over 10 years, so there's been some changes in paradigm of what Aerosmith is," Perry said in an AP interview.

Rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford also said that finding a replacement for Tyler wasn't out of the question.

“Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him – he’s one of a kind," he said. "But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?”
