Worth the Drive: Duck-A-Thon

A weekend of sand, sun, surf and food billed as an odyssey you won't want to miss.

Your job: Decide to get out of town and fast. Our job: Help you find where you're headed. This week, Worth the Drive takes us to...

Going Quackers: The 18th annual Duck-A-Thon is a Huntington Beach tradition. Located right off the pier, this three-day event has something for everyone.  On Saturday, Over 4,000 rubber ducks will make their way from the pier and race back to shore. The first 50 ducks to land win prizes for their owners.

When: Friday, May 14 (6:00 p.m- 8:00 p.m), Saturday, May 15 (10:00 a.m- 6:00 p.m) and Sunday, May 16 (10:00 a.m- 5:00 p.m).

Lucky Ducks: Event goers can buy racing ducks online-- $10 for regular ducks and $20 for special “2010: A Duck Odyssey” ducks, hand painted with astronaut helmets, power packs and booster rockets. Proceeds from the ducks go to AltaMed’s Huntington Beach Community Clinic. Your participation will help thousands of uninsured and medically under served patients.

The De-tails: Begin the weekend with a sunset wine tasting on the pier paired with hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants on Friday.  On Saturday, cruise down the Huntington Beach Pier Plaza and check out all the arts, crafts and baubles from various vendors. If you’re bringing the kids, check out the massive children’s area featuring bounce houses, duck decorating, a toddler’s zone and prizes.

A Place to Stay: Huntington Beach has tons of fine resorts, hotels and inns to suit your needs--  if you're looking for something upscale, you might enjoy the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa located right off PCH.  For something low key, the Comfort Suites provides a nice place to sleep at a great price.
