World Snowboard Day

Organizers promise you'll have fun whether you're "agile as a mountain goat or more like a moose"

WORLDWIDE EVENT: Dozens of ceremonies are planned for World Snowboard Day including here in Southern California. Organizers promise you'll have fun whether you're "agile as a mountain goat or more like a moose." Bear Mountain is bringing in a DJ, offering prizes and the chance to drop in with hundreds of fellow snowboarders for the Chuck Allen snake run.

LEARN TO SNOWBOARD: At Bear Valley Mountain, the hill will be open an hour early on Dec. 18 for all snowboarders to get their first tracks. They're also offering a buy one snowboarding lesson, get one free later in the year.

NIGHT OF LIGHTS: Get to Mammoth Mountain the night before World Snowboard Day to catch the Night of Lights at Canyon Lodge. Fireworks will light up the sky again this year with the ski slopes as a backdrop. You can also enjoy a torchlight parade and live music. Rooftop viewing $35/adults, $20/child.
