Fondue Fridays

FONDUE FRIDAYS: Well, maybe we'll delay hopping on that free trolley into Palm Springs proper, at least for just for a moment. The Riviera recently kicked off a move to celebrate the close of the week with melted cheeses and dippable tasties. Fondue-ing anything for any reason is a move we can all support, but certainly at this mid-century-ish getaway, which was built just a few years ahead of the tasty fad's heyday.

BRIE AND CANTALOUPE: The hotel is offering different combos -- think brie with honeydew and cantaloupe, or gouda with filet mignon -- with different wines.  This is all going down on Friday nights starting at 5 p.m. in both the hotel's Starlite Lounge and Sidebar. Eating fondue in a place spelled "Starlite" feels like a happy 1962-flavored reverie. Note that the fondue'll be bubbling all night, through to closing, so you don't need to rush your night swim if you don't feel like it. The Palm Springs night swim? Possibly the most perfect invention ever to involve night or swimming.
