Get Bugged at the Zoo

Bug-a-boo: Kids were meant to roam free outdoors, breathing in fresh air, bruising up their knees and getting mud in their hair.  It’s in their nature.  All this, and the fact that they always tend to have something sticky in their hands, is the reason I tend to avoid babysitting.  However, if you have some curious, energetic tikes, what better way to segue into trick-or-treating than with a trip to the Creepy Crawly Festival at the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park.

“Biggest, Baddest Bug Show”: That’s the rumor and they’re stickin’ to it.  Bugs, bugs, bugs.  You and the kiddos will get to experience up-close encounters with them, learn what exactly they’re useful for, and even watch how they’re used as the main course for folks in the aviary (that's birds).

Remember: During the entire month of October, all kids 11 years old and younger will get into the Zoo free.  The Creepy Crawly Fest will go on from today, October 23 until November 14.  Look for Robert the digital talking zebra and Monty Meerkat who will chat to your little ones about the importance of being outdoors.  "Yes," they’ll say with muddy hands, “you’re preaching to the choir.”
