The Dragon in the Garden

The Bellagio celebrates Chinese New Year with a gorgeous display.

THE GARDEN GROWS: If you're a Las Vegas regular, or if you've only visited once or twice in the last decade or so, you've likely swung by the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio. We make this assumption because a) the garden is a pretty sweet and peaceful place to pass some time, and that it is plunk in the middle of the Strip charms and b) it is free. Free doesn't come around often enough in Sin City, so people tend to enjoy it when it does. And if you're a conservatory fan, you know that it changes out a few times a year, to reflect various seasons or holidays. You also know that January and February is dedicated to Chinese New Year, as it is again this year. But here's something new, for long-timers and first-timers alike: The Bellagio is introducing, for the very first time, live entertainment to the garden.

THE BEIJING TRIO: Listen to the erhu, ruan, and other traditional Chinese instruments from 5 to 6 p.m. every day for the duration of the theme's garden run (the Chinese New Year display will be up through March 4). It's a free performance from the local group The Beijing Trio. If you can't make the daily concert, be sure to visit the gardens to take in the 200+ koi fish, the I-Ching coins spread for luck, and the animated blue dragons (they're two of them, and they're both 25 feet each.)
