Rejoice, Ski People: The Snow Is Back

The mountains rejoice as the white stuff falls again.

YOSEMITE YUKS: We do like it when a solemn and noble national park cracks wise. Yosemite National Park did just that, on Thursday, Jan. 30 via its Facebook page, following the arrival of an anticipated cold front: "Yesterday we woke up to find water falling from the sky and a bit of the cold white stuff at higher elevations. Confused, we consulted old issues of Yosemite Nature Notes and discovered what we were seeing was 'rain' and the white stuff higher up was called 'snow.'" Yep, this sly comment deserves an affection hardy-har-har, because the mountains have been devoid of moisture for too many weeks. But that's changed, quickly, dear ski fans: The resorts are ready to make this winter work, pronto. Have your board or poles packed, and your long johns, too? Then make for...

MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN: "Bluebird 12-14 inches fresh" reads the most recent update from the popular destination, and the pictures from the town below the slopes tell the story (that's one above). "The new snow is allowing us to expand terrain...additional lifts could come by the weekend," reads another post.

BADGER PASS: The Yosemite ski area got 2 to 4 inches on Jan. 30, and updates are soon to come about the state of the skiing.

BIG BEAR LAKE: The village has gone flaky and frosty, and word comes down that both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit "are at 75% snow for both resorts." There are some sweet Snow Summit deals afoot, too, so eye the goodness before driving up.

AND IF YOU CAN MAKE SIERRA-AT-TAHOE... They have a Feb. 1 deal going that's fully dependent on the inches this latest storm brings. Thinking outside the flake, Sierra-at-Tahoe. We like.

And as for Mammoth's neighbor, JUNE MOUNTAIN? A happy video posted on Jan. 30 tells the snowy story well.
