Orange County Tree Lightings

SO MANY: It can be hard to drive through any part of Orange County without seeing signs for an upcoming tree lighting (well, if you're driving around November, say; not April or May). We're not sure if it is because OC is home to some very famous shopping centers, and a few very well-known theme parks, but it does seem to be a region that is particularly rich in twinkle-top firs come Thanksgiving week and early December. And we aren't complaining. A big mall tree is quite the festive sight, and the Orange County/Anaheim Convention and Visitors Bureau has rounded up a few of the top ones.

ON THE ROSTER: South Coast Plaza, which takes the top spot on the list is lit; the Plaza's mondo tree went bright on Thursday, Nov. 17. And Fashion Island has two nights -- that's two nights -- of tree-lighting fun going down; they just happen to fall right after South Coast, on Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19. But if you want sort of an old-town-square dealie, we'd definitely make for Orange, which gets the season going on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 4. There will be caroling. A number of others are listed, so get them all (and hit them all, if that's your thing; anyone collecting stacking up the tree-lighting ceremonies out there? We have a feeling there's someone who wants to be at each one. A hearty, holiday high five their way.)
