Laguna Niguel Mega Eggs: Spring Tradition

The hand-painted artworks will be on display at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel.

THAT COLORFUL CANVAS: There are many offbeat places to create an artwork in this world, from a sidewalk, with chalk, to a sandy bit of beachfront (both, of course, are ephemeral, and prone to disappearing in days or even hours, making the creations even more meaningful). And there is the egg, a popular canvas, especially when springtime rolls around and we begin dipping the wonderful 'n wobbly yolk-holders in various swirls of brightly hued dye. There are many ways to approach decorating an egg for Easter, including stickers and crayons, but The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel has one of the most picturesque and locally lovely egg displays around. As is tradition at the water-close resort, a few mega-sized eggs, that aren't real or edible, let us note, are painted by artists who live in the area. Those artists in 2017 include Trevor Mezak, James Galindo, Robin Hiers, and Kym de los Reyes, and your first peek at their work is coming up quickly, on...

SATURDAY, APRIL 1: That's when the whimsical over-sized eggs go on display near the resort's front entrance. Can you and the family stop for a sweet, everyone-line-up photograph in front of the beach-scene'd eggs? For sure — that is also a tradition at the hotel. These big eggs are far too large to fit in a basket, but a snapshot of you and yours standing in front of them will fit nicely in a frame one day. And another seasonal tradition at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel? A swanky Easter brunch, flush with you-pick-the-ingredient omelets and a fancy dessert spread, will happen on Sunday, April 16. But if you and your loved ones can't be at the hotel on Easter proper, but still want to admire the enormous eggs, just be sure to stop by from April 7 through April 23.
