BOARDING BADGER: Because of our generally sublime climate in the Golden State -- we know, we know, there are 2,146 micro-climates that run the gamut from perfect to persnickety -- we have to keep watch for other seasonal cues. One of the biggest when it comes to the pending arrival of winter is the opening of our slopes. And the annual opening-day announcements have definitely been coming fast and flurrious -- yeah, we said flurrious, because we felt like it -- over the last few weeks. Today's spotlight is Badger Pass, that Yosemite-close boarder paradise.
OPENING DATE: Friday, Dec. 16. Yep, it is a bit later than a lot of the resorts, but then Yosemite isn't tremendously high; Badger Pass is just a pip over 7,000 feet. (We realize a whole cadre of meteorologists and geologists may want to school us on the topic of slope elevation and opening dates, and we would absolutely welcome that.) In short, you'll be skiing for New Year's, if you wish.
GOOD DEAL: We're feeling especially sweet on the Two for Tuesday adult lift ticket deal. It is what it sounds like; two adults ride for the price of one. That price is $42, and the whole shebang starts after the holidays on Jan. 10. Oh, to be in Badger Pass on a January Tuesday. That kind of sounds like the life. Sigh. We're off to daydream about that topic for a bit. Please excuse us. Thank you.
