World's Greatest Bike Parade

Your job: Decide to get out of town and fast. Our job: Help you find where you're headed. This week, Worth the Drive takes us to...

The World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade: Take a bike, buddy! The Davis Odd Fellows Lodge will lead a community effort to break to Guinness World’s record for the largest parade of bicycles.

The place: Davis. Since it’s known for an overpopulation of cyclists, it is only appropriate this be the location for the world’s greatest bicycle parade.

The rules: Yes, there are rules for a bicycle parade. Breaking a record takes some strategic planning. Some of the guidelines being as obvious as defining a bicycle: a two-wheeled vehicle powered only by human pedal power. No training wheels allowed, sorry. There are 13 rules total.

The date: October 3.

The after-party: Well, broken record or not, everyone is invited to Central Park after the end of the parade. There will be a BBQ will be put on by the Davis Firefighters, a beer and wine garden, activities for the kiddos and live entertainment.

The record: Currently held by 3,515 bicycles in Bangkok, Thailand.  Now, that's a lot of man power.

The website: You can register here. Break the record and raise money for schools. Bike registration fees after expenses will all be funneled to the Davis Schools Foundation. Get to cyclin’!
