The Year in Yuma

Farm feasts, rain watching, and other 2012 to-dos are ahead.

WINTER IN YUMA: Other places, with lots of snow and ice? Please stay cozy and be sure to throw an extra blanket on the bed. These colder months make us think about a particular dune-close city that is so famously toasty there's a whole deal where you get a free meal on days the sun doesn't shine. Yep, we're talking Yuma, and, nope, it isn't only the new Taco Trail thing that has us turning our eyes toward southwestern AZ. We're thinking about the Y Town and all of the winter to-dos it has going on (after all, figure that winter is Yuma's high season. And yeah, we said Y Town.

ON THE CALENDAR: The aforementioned Taco Trail kicks off on Jan. 6, but there are other foodie events ahead, like the Field to Feast agricultural tours (pick produce and then eat a meal based on that produce, a meal created by culinary students). There's also the Gathering of the Gunfighters at the Yuma Territorial Prison on Jan. 14 and 15. That's going to coincide with the Spirit of Yuma Festival and the Yuma Home & Garden Show. For the whole roster, and to see what's happening in the dead of winter in one of the world's sunshine-iest cities, click on Y Town lovers. Click on.
