The Capitol Christmas Tree's California Tour

UNUSUAL SIGHT: Bands? They go on tour. A lot. Authors? They're known for hitting the bookstore and college campus circuit. But a giant, 65-foot-tall white fir heading out on the road for a multi-city loop? Not so common. But that's exactly what the tree selected to be the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is about to do. It hails from California's beautiful Stanislaus National Forest -- an area in the forest is pictured above -- and it is about to take to the highways and byways of the Golden State before making for Washington D.C. Stop number one? Sonora, in Gold Country, on Saturday, Nov. 5.

MORE GOLDEN STATE STOPS: The tree pays a call to our own capital on Wednesday, Nov. 9; Modesto, Merced, and Fresno are on the itinerary as well. Then it is onto Santa Clarita, Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and Barstow. The tour lasts for seven days and organizers will be collecting non-perishable food items for donation at each stop. Did you also know that the tree, once it is set up and all glittery and aglow at the Capitol, will boast oodles of ornaments made by Californians? Yeah, that's pretty cool. It's only the fourth Capitol tree to hail from our state, so we're feeling plenty chuffed about it.

TOUR T-SHIRTS: Surely someone is making a rocking and yet respectable tee for the tree? With all the cities listed on the back? We'd wear it. Show our love for the Stanislaus.
