OCMA Free Summer Sunday

FREE FREE FREE: A free day at a great museum remains one of life's pleasures. We won't even stick it in the "little pleasures" category; the chance to stow the wallet but fill the mind with ideas and visuals doesn't come around often enough. And if kids are invited along, too, and there are crafty activities, and chances to make stuff and get a bit painty, even better. Things are going to be getting pretty painty around the Orange County Museum of Art on Sunday, June 12, which just happens to be the second Sunday of the month. And the second Sunday of the month? Free, courtesy of Target, Visionaries, and Capital Group Companies Charitable Foundation.

ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONS: That's the focus of the day, and there are several fam-nice activities orbiting the theme. We say "orbiting" because Calder art will play a role (so maybe "twirling" or "mobile-ing" is more appropriate). Of course, even if you simply want to arrive on your own to take in some paintings, you can, and you won't pay admission. But if you have a young artist, and your weekend is still pretty uncrowded, and you'll be in Newport Beach, get details on hours and such.
