VINTAGE HALLOWEEN: If you love the spookiest time of the year, there is no such thing as an average Halloween bash. Throw some balloons around, light a few jack o' lanterns, put out a punch bowl, and you're done. But once and awhile an interesting element is desired, something you don't see every day, or even every year, a feature that will have guests talking long after the spooky season has slipped away. A haunted plane certainly fills that slot, and when that plane is a gigantic Curtiss C-46-F Army Transport? Well, party centerpieces rarely come larger or more interesting. The Commemorative Air Force Southern California Wing will be displaying that Curtiss -- make that a haunted Curtiss -- during its annual Ghost Squadron Halloween Party at the CAF museum hangar in Camarillo.
DATES AND DETAILS: The bash is set to roll -- er, take wing -- on Saturday, Oct. 27. Cover bands, eats, costumes will all lend the requisite Halloween air to the proceedings, while the haunted plane will be decorated in the spirit of the holiday; other vintage World War II planes will be on display around the hangar as well. Nope, your costume doesn't have to be of the era, but we'd certainly think about dressing as a glamorous '40s movie star or similar. And, best of all? The twenty bucks you'll pay to get in supports the care of these historic planes (many of which still fly). Can't make the annual Halloween shindig?
