Feasting at Five Crowns

Love the landmark Orange County restaurant? There's a contest on.

SUMPTUOUS SUPPER: Lots of new restaurants will hold contests and deals to try and find new patrons. So when a classic landmark walks that road, and the end result is especially tasty, we take note. Five Crowns, the posh Orange County destination owned by the Lawry's group, has a Facebook promotion on now through Dec. 27. The upshot? Visit the Corona del Mar restaurant's Facebook page, fill out some info, and then submit an entry (actually, you can submit an entry a day, but no more than that). There's stuff you'll need to read, as with all promotions like this, but we're guessing you'd like to hear about the grand prize: a private dinner helmed by Executive Chef Greg Harrison, plus a visit to a farmers market with the culinaire. (We do love field trips with chefs, since so many chef events are centered around stoves.) There are some $50 gift card giveaways in the mix as well, so keep that in mind. If you nab one of those, Five Crowns, with its ye olde world vibe, is a fine place for a holiday time meal. That's due in part to...

STROLLING HOLIDAY CAROLERS: Yep, Lawry's and seasonal songs are now synonymous in many minds. While the restaurant is closed on Dec. 25, carolers will sing merry tunes during the dinner hours from Nov. 30 through Dec. 30. Fa la la la, indeed.

AND INTO THE NEW YEAR: There's also a Friday Night Chef's Supper as well at Five Crowns, for a hundred bucks a person. Chef Harrison oversees those savory events as well and there is a minimum number of people required (that would be eight).
