Jewel, John Legend Headline Petco Park Shows

As spring and summer outdoors concerts come to an end, there is still a rare, special concert series happening at Petco Park next month.

Local favorite Jewel and six-time Grammy award winning singer/songwriter John Legend will each perform a benefit concert on the field, Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, respectively.

San Diego’s beloved Jewel will perform at the 6,500-capacity field venue, staged in left field of the baseball park. Touring behind her second country album, Sweet and Wild, the Grammy-nominated gem will perform fan favorites, including her mega hit, “You Were Meant For Me.”  Singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat will open for Jewel, adding Petco Park to her Breaththrough album tour. Caillat will release her new album in February 2011.

The soulful and seductive Legend is touring behind his new album, Wake Up!, a collaboration with the hip-hop band the Roots.  Legend created a traffic jam by performing a free in-store concert at the new Microsoft store in the Fashion Valley Mall. Macy Gray will be a special guest opening up for Legend.  The raspy-voiced diva won a Grammy for her breakout hit, “I Try”, in 2001, and released her new album, The Sellout, this past June.

Admission is $45, $59.50 or $95 for VIP passes; tickets are still available. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and the concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. All net proceeds will benefit Stand Up to Cancer, a tax-exempt organization that partners with MLB and leading cancer research scientists, fast-tracking new technologies and medicines.  Ashford University and the San Diego Padres are supporters of this concert series. For more information, visit standup2cancer.org.
