Little Hurricane Blows Back to Town

91x's Robin Roth's weekend picks include San Diego's little blues band that could, who return to the Belly Up on Friday.

It’s starting to feel a lot like summer. June is officially under way this weekend, and having the short work week just makes things a whole lot better.

Friday, Tame Impala play a sold-out show at House of Blues. At The Belly Up, its Little Hurricane, the Stone Foxes and the Hollerin. Plus, Fear headlines at the Casbah.

On Saturday, make your plans to attend Clash at Clairemont at the Krause Family Bike and Skatepark at 3401 Clairmont Drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will showcase skateboarding pros Tony Hawk, Andy Macdonald, Bucky Lasek and many others. Live performances from P.O.D., Mixmaster Mike and Hit Dog Hollar, with the proceeds from the event benefiting Grind for Life, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting those affected by cancer by providing financial assistance and education in cancer survival and recovery. Grab more details about the event here. There’s also Fiesta del Sol in Solana Beach and Art Around Adams to check out. That night, there are sold-out shows with Imagine Dragons at the SDSU Open Air Theater and Psychedelic Furs at the Belly Up. Fidlar plays at UCSD’s Che Café, and Crystal Fighters invade the Casbah. At Brick By Brick, you can check out the Jane’s Addiction tribute band Jane’s Diction, along with the female Led Zeppelin tribute act, Lady Zep. Plus, Gypsy rock with Danyavaad and the Shimmy Sisters. For more dancing fun, I’ll be DJing at Club Ascension with Michael and Baron, so come by the Kava Lounge. You can also check out an Imagine Dragons (DJ set) featuring Dan Reynolds at Voyeur after the band's SDSU show.

On Sunday, it’s the Rock & Roll Marathon, followed by a free show from Psychedelic Furs at 10:30 a.m. at Petco Park. After that, head to Intervention at the Hard Rock Hotel downtown, for an event featuring LA Riots. The Belly Up features the Scottish electropop band Chvrches; grab details here
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
