Taking Back Friday

Taking Back Sunday and the Used co-headline the House of Blues on Friday

As we gear up for Padres Opening Day this Sunday, kick off your weekend Friday with the Used and Taking Back Sunday, who are playing a sold-out, co-headlining show at House of Blues; Transfer, Okapi Sun, Hong Kong Fuzz and Octagrape are at the Casbah; Neighbors to the North and Chess Wars heat up Seven Grand; Octo Octa, Magic Touch, Afterhours and DJ Bob Dazzla bring it to the Hideout; Bad Sports, Roll The Tanks and the Natives and Vaguess are at Soda Bar; Bit Maps and Tropical Popsicle play at the Whistle Stop; and Bring Me the Horizon headlines a sold out show at SOMA. Get your dance on as Bonkers Dance Party takes over Bar Pink: Tribalove hits the Kava Lounge; and Bang Bang features Mikey Lion and Porkchop.

Saturday, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks headline a sold-out show at the Casbah; Strung Out and the Creepy Creeps are at the Belly Up; Kenny Metcalf as Elton (Elton John Tribute) with Smooth Harbor Yacht Club play at House of Blues; Ilya, Arms Away and Champ take over the Irenic; Stevie & the Hi-Stax play at Bar Pink; the San Diego Experimental Guitar Show is at Soda Bar; and Gayle Skidmore, Gina Chavez and Johanna Chase play at Lestat’s. Get your dance on at Numb3rs, where Club Sabbat celebrates its 16 year anniversary. DJs Liquid Grey and yours truly will rock the front room while Drew Harlander takes over the back room. At El Dorado, French Toast (a night dedicated to French House) features DJs Steve McQueen, Saul Q, Chuy Fresno and Saimoon. Plus, Diamonds in the Back hits the Whistle Stop, and Shift K3Y takes over Bang Bang.

On Sunday, celebrate the kickoff of the Padres season, as the free East Village Opening Day Block Party takes over J Street between 6th and 10th avenues from 10 am to 7 pm. If you’d like to spice things up a bit, I recommend heading to the Shakedown Bar as Soundrange presents Sunday Round Up with Restavrant, Low Volts, Stephen Rey and Matt Molarius of Transfer. Plus, DJ sets from Jeremiah Z of the Silent Comedy, P Star and Doobie. Grab more details here.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
