Superstar Indie-Rock Band Hits the Track

The Del Mar Racetrack hits the track running with Cold War Kids

Indie-rock fans, mark your calendars: Cold War Kids are coming to San Diego!

The Del Mar Racetrack announced on the morning of Friday, May 20, that their annual Summer Concert Series will be kicked off in a huge way with the beloved Long Beach-based rock band on Friday, July 22!

The group, which headlined a sold-out Observatory North Park last time through town, most recently performed at both weekends at the 2016 Coachella Arts and Music Festival in Indio, California. For those of us that couldn't make it out to the desert and were instead glued to our computer screens watching them on Coachella's glorious YouTube stream, we couldn't be more thrilled to have them back in town.

Cold War Kids (comprised of vocalist/pianist/guitarist Nathan Willett, bassist Matt Maust, guitarist David Quon, keyboardist/guitarist/percussionist Matthew Schwartz, and drummer Joe Plummer) got their start in Fullerton, California in 2004 and released their major label debut album, "Robbers & Cowards," in 2006. It was a massive success, receiving critical acclaim and spawning three huge singles: "We Used to Vacation," "Hang Me Up to Dry," and "Hospital Beds."

Since then, they've been at the forefront of indie rock, releasing four more fantastic records over the last 10 years -- with their latest, "Hold My Home," dropping in October of 2014. Cold War Kids are known for their incessant touring and spirited live performances, as we've seen in San Diego time and time again. They're always a welcome sight to behold, powering their way through fiery songs and a truly bombastic stage show. Simply put, we're very much looking forward to catching them at the Racetrack because they're one of the best indie-rock bands around.

By the way, an official announcement of Del Mar Racing's full season is coming MONDAY, we're told, so stay tuned to SoundDiego for all the details!

Admission to all shows at the Del Mar Racetrack is free with a purchased ticket to the races. Otherwise, tickets are $20 if you arrive after the last race has occurred. We recommend saving some energy for July 22 –- Cold War Kids are bound to provide one of the most epic rock experiences around.
