Sounds of Summer Pop Up Downtown

A new series of free downtown music performances kicks off with a SoundDiego LIVE teaser set

With apologies to buskers everywhere, that great band you hear playing downtown this summer won’t be bumming for spare change.

A new series of free outdoor shows sponsored by the Downtown San Diego Partnership kicks off next Friday with a SoundDiego LIVE teaser set by one of the stars of NBC’s “The Voice” -- Season 6 standout Megan Ruger, who will be flying into San Diego from Nashville on Friday to perform at SoundDiego LIVE at Tin Roof that night – get on the guest list here for the FREE party here (with five-time San Diego Music Award winners Cash’d Out and Nancarrow, and a hosted happy hour from Jack Daniel’s).

Ruger will give fans a taste of what to expect that night when she and her band rip through a short set in Horton Plaza at a show that kicks off at noon on Friday with a performance by San Diego’s six-piece Morgan Leigh Band, who SoundDiego Spotlighted recently

The pop-up show next week is an effort to “enliven spaces throughout downtown with cultural happenings and activities,” according to a news release issued by the partnership on Friday. That’s PR-speak for hit-and-run Friday nooners by local artists, who will play all over downtown, everywhere from outside the U.S. Grant Hotel to the new park at the County Administration Building overlooking the Embarcadero.
