I don't know about you, but September is one of my favorite months for music in San Diego. We have a ton of street fairs and festivals along with the usual nightly music.
This Wednesday, you can catch plenty of great shows around town, like Gov't Mule performing at the House of Blues or Miss Erika Davies and Burt Brion over at Anthology, the perfect venue for Erika's unique vocal stylings. Soda Bar hosts Night Fruit, Stevie & the Hi-Stax play a free show for the 47% at Bar Pink, and YOB return to the Casbah.
My pick of the night, however, is a performance by Steve Poltz at the Birch Aquarium. Steve is one of the greatest and most prolific songwriters in this city, and his constant touring means there are only a handful of opportunities to see him perform at home. And sometimes, location just adds so much to a show, and hearing Steve Poltz in the open air at the aquarium while overlooking the beauty of La Jolla, well, you have yourself a winner.
