Low Volts is one of my favorite additions to the music scene. In the Blackout Party's Tim Lowman one-man project, he plays fuzzed-out guitar while stomping his kick drum and shaking various tambourines he is adorned with. The music is sexy and sometimes lyrically dark, with a little bit of country and a little bit of blues to give it a retro rock & roll vibe. You can catch Low Volts for a free show tonight at West Coast Tavern.
Around town, former Men at Work frontman Colin Hay is at the Belly Up, chill singer/songwriter Matt Costa is at the Casbah, and Cypress Hills DJ Muggs duels Wu-Tang's GZA for the hip-hop heads at Fluxx. As usual on Thursdays, there's a lot to choose from, so choose wisely.
