Iceland's Seabear make their West Coast debut tonight at the Casbah.
I have a friend who is convinced that certain countries produce superior bands. I try to argue that perhaps this is because only the cream of crop really rise to the top and get support to actually tour the U.S. He's partial to Australian bands, but lately I find myself seeking out music from places like Denmark, Scotland and Iceland. Maybe there is something cultural or maybe it's the climate, but I've got a list of favorites from each country, so maybe there is some truth to my friend's logic. My latest is Seabear, and I'll be honest that I didn't so much "discover" the band; rather, the fact that they were on a sampler I was sent that had the band featured that piqued my interest.
Of course, San Diego never just gives you a simple choice for your nightly entertainment, so you can also choose Built to Spill (with opener Finn Riggins who is amazing), Kate Nash or any of the many other options for the evening. I know where I'll be. Perhaps I'll wear a parka so the band feels more at home.
