Sounds Like San Diego: October 21

Indie gods Crystal Castles will perform Sunday at Soma

The first time I ever saw Crystal Castles, I was sitting in the back bar of the Casbah, waiting to sell their merchandise. Alice Glass and Ethan Cath came to order drinks, so I asked if I could take a picture. They obliged, but every time I counted, "1, 2, 3," and snapped, both covered their faces with both hands. Apparently they were too kind to say no but really didn't like being photographed. It wasn't long after that they were huge, selling out venues much bigger than the Casbah. The energy onstage is unstoppable, and their music can be enjoyed by everyone from the staunchest hipsters to people who would rather spend their weekends in a bottle-service nightclub than a music venue. On Sunday, Crystal Castles will perform at Soma with Health and Kontravoid, and you'll certainly see a wide spectrum of fans ranging in age and styles. Frankly, I'm a little shocked this one hasn't sold out, but that's good news for you if you need tickets. You should be OK to just buy them at the venue when you get there.
