Growing up, my mom listened to the local station that certainly described itself as "smooth." Later in life I learned these classifications in the advertising industry: smooth rock, smooth jazz, adult album alternative, adult contemporary. These distinctions still mean little to me, but music stands out. On Sunday, I am so excited to see and hear Michael McDonald at the Belly Up. This might be yacht rock to the youngsters, but for me this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy and engage with a musician I've heard all of my life but have never had the pleasure of knowing. His voice is unmistakable, and I know that he'll deliver the hits. I can hardly wait.
