I hope you've already kicked into high gear for the weekend because there are so many things going on in town you should really just save the household chores and mundane activities for another day so you can enjoy the festivities. Kicking off the day, you might want to head to O.B. for their annual Oktoberfest celebration. Besides the beer, this isn't going to feel like Germany in any way, but with a solid lineup of local bands, does it really matter if you have to trade your oom-pah-pah band for San Diego Musica Award winners like B-Side Players and Blackout Party? Yes, this is how we do it here in San Diego, and you can bet there will be great food and vendors to sate your impulses, and the people watching just can't be beat. In the afternoon, the inaugural Night & Day Street Fest kicks off downtown with touring and locals mixing it up. By nightfall, Patti Smith performs at Spreckels, Xavier Rudd performs at the Belly Up, and Big Business take over the Casbah. My bets, though, are on Sun Airway over at the Soda Bar. The first time I saw this band, it was touring with Imagine Dragons, and we all know how things have gone for that band. I suspect you can expect a similar future outcome for Sun Airway.
