My very first show at the Casbah was by a band called Whiskeytown. I had a mad crush on this guy named Alan, and he had the coolest taste in music and seemed to know everything about everything, and after that show, Stranger's Almanac became a record I would go back to over and over again in my life. Whiskeytown disbanded, and since then, Ryan Adams has gone through many iterations. Tonight he returns to San Diego for the first time in a couple years, touring on the release day his new record, Ashes & Fire. The album sees Adams in a quiet and introspective mode, so you're not going to hear any rockers on this record, but if you like beautiful, heavy mood music, this record and tonight's solo show is for you. If you weren't able to snatch tickets, Fountains of Wayne aren't a bad backup plan over at Anthology.
