People Under the Stairs, seen here performing at Coachella, bring their live show to the intimacy of the Casbah.
After about five years under its current ownership, O'Connell's is calling it quits. The club, located off Morena Boulevard just south of Tecolote, had consistent shows and its own crowd of music-loving patrons who don't really subscribe to the North Park-centric indie scene but don't quite fit into the beachy scene made up almost entirely of reggae and cover bands. They've hosted all genres of music over the years, including their regular karaoke and Blues Jam nights, and recently even had some scenes of the bar appear in Terriers on FX. Tonight's final lineup will feature Hocus, Starcrossed and Ultra Viol3t.
The Casbah isn't exactly known for its hip-hop shows, and I probably can count on my fingers how many of them take place during any given year, but they're stepping up their game a bit tonight, bringing out People Under the Stairs. This will be an incredible chance to see a choice act in the intimate setting of the Casbah. (Traditionally they have performed at larger spaces like Canes or the House of Blues). If you like hip-hop in any form, this is a not to miss show.
