It's Wednesday, and there are a few ways to get over hump night. As my colleague Scott McDonald wrote about on SoundDiego on Tuesday, J Mascis returns to the Casbah on this night. The Dinosaur Jr frontman released his latest solo effort, "Tied to a Star," this year, and the influential musician is always interesting and full of surprises when he performs at the Casbah. Meanwhile, Hot Water Music play to a sold-out crowd at the Irenic, San Diego Music Award winner Nicky Venus performs at Bar Pink, and Soda Bar rocks out with the Contenders. Get there early to see Josh Damigo with his full band, the Freeloaders, and you'll forget that he's been pigeonholed as a sensitive singer/songwriter all these years. With this band, you'll believe he was born to be the frontman of a rock & roll band.
