Sounds Like San Diego: May 6

I'm am not an economist by any stretch of the imagination, but in my very non-scientific assessment, the economy in San Diego is looking pretty good. I mean, when people have disposable income, entertainment picks up. If you look at this Monday -- a Monday! -- San Diego has four sold-out shows. Mind you, if you add the capacity of the Casbah, the Irenic, the Belly Up and Balboa Theatre together, that's only about 2200 tickets altogether. But I'd suggest that the idea that people are buying advance tickets to sell out these wildly different shows is a good sign for San Diego. If you didn't plan ahead and are not holding tickets for Bonobo, Built to Spill, Bob's Burgers or comedian Aziz Ansari, there's still hope for you because there are other worthy shows this Monday including Laura Stevenson and the Cans at Soda Bar or South Africa's the Parlotones over at the Griffin. Mondays do not ever have to suck, and with this show lineup, you can be sure that this Monday will be better than most.
