Gillian Welch, who performs with her longtime partner, Dave Rawlings, bends genres with ease, infusing her modern country songs with elements of folk, bluegrass, R&B and even punk. Not familiar? You might know her from the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.
I would love to tell you about all of the great shows in town, but none take precedent over the fact that legendary musician Gillian Welch is in town. With her pure voice and her gorgeous music that has laid a template for so many other musicians, it is rightful that everyone who really cares about indie music will be at this show on Tuesday at Humphreys. Horse Feathers at the Casbah and Everlast at the Belly Up are viable options, and Tin Can and Whistle Stop have solid options, too, but believe me, you want to catch Welch when you can.
