When I was in high school, Montezuma Hall was one of my favorite venues in San Diego. Located in the Aztec Center of SDSU, the venue hosted great all-ages concerts and was one of just a few places where kids could enjoy touring bands. I remember being with my best friend at a Toad the Wet Sprocket show and trying to maneuver to the front of the crowd. We saw some other people doing the same, so we all joined hands and went for it. We eventually got close enough to see the sweat on Glen Phillips' brow and had an amazing time as he performed songs from the just-released Dulcinea. The band later crossed over to more adult contemporary pop in its later years, but I still hold the memories of those earlier shows in high regard. Toad the Wet Sprocket returns to San Diego to perform two shows at Anthology on Thursday. The early show is sold-out, but I hear there are still some tickets left for the late one.
