A Nickel Creek for Your Thoughts

Nickel Creek make their triumphant return to San Diego tonight

When people talk about bands that hail from San Diego who have gone on to make a name for themselves, we often think of bands like Blink-182, Rocket From the Crypt, Jewel and Jason Mraz -- but sometimes we forget to include Nickel Creek. From humble band beginnings at a north county pizza joint, the band stealthily hit it big before they'd really been noticed as a "local" band. Mandolinist Chris Thile has gone on with other recording projects, and brother and sister Sean and Sara Watkins can be seen often at various high-demand shows, but the band has reunited for a tour and they'll remind San Diego tonight why they were so massively successful, as their sounds fill the Balboa Theatre.
