Sounds Like San Diego: June 20

It's gonna be a scorcher in East County on Saturday, but don't let that stop you from checking out FM 94/9's Dirty Parts Festival at the Lakeside Rode. A counter to their Sandy Parts Festival at the Oceanside Pier, they've bringing some bands to the masses that we've already grown to know and love, like In the Valley Below, Saint Motel, Big Data and Waters. Add in the infectious tunes of Kongos and the acrobatic stylings of New Politics as the headliner, and this will be a fun but hot day -- bring your sunscreen. In other shows, Surfer Blood have had a rough year. First, guitarist Tommy Fekete was diagnosed with cancer, then the band's tour van was broken into and the tour proceeds and donations for Tommy were stolen. It's surprising that they're persevering and playing a show at the Irenic at all. This is an early all-ages show, and the band could use your support. Later on, head to the Casbah for a solo show with Rhett Miller of the Old 97s. He's one of the best in the biz and his shows are top-notch.
