Sounds Like San Diego: June 17

Lately it seems pretty rare to see a live show at the World Beat Cultural Center in Balboa Park, but back in the day it was one of the best places to catch an all-ages show. Don't get me wrong, they still have performances on occasion, but they largely go under the radar. On Tuesday, however, the center celebrates Fela Day with a performance by Seun Kuti, the son of the late musician and human-rights advocate. Seun has followed in his father's Afro-beat footsteps and will certainly deliver an intense performance. And speaking of all-ages shows, the House of Blues has rebranded the Fifth Avenue Sidestage as the Voodoo Room, and on Tuesday you can catch SomeKindaWonderful and Vaudeville Etiquette at a free show. If you haven't heard the hit "Reverse," you will soon, and you can say you saw them in a small venue before they hit it big. There's a remix of the hit in the Top 4 at Hypemachine, so if radio hasn't bitten yet, you can be sure they will soon.
