There are times when I appreciate that San Diego is known for being a sleepy town. And then there's Monday night, when the Belly Up, Casbah, and Soda Bar all sold out, the latter two on the night of the show, and I want you to know that even though these listings are published the day of the show, there are so many ways to find out what is coming to town without missing your favorite bands. On Tuesday, Deafheaven play the Casbah, and they're pretty mind-blowing; at press time, there were still tickets available, but when doors open, there might not be, so plan accordingly. You can also catch Asher Roth performing an all-ages show at the Irenic, or head up to the San Diego County Fair without irony for Huey Lewis & the News. Steve Martin will be getting banjoriffic at Humphrey's, so whether you have a ticket or a canoe, maybe this is your calling. I warned you that this week was full of great music. Don't miss out.

Tuesday, July 1:

  • Deafheaven, Wreck & Reference @ Casbah
  • Casbah presents Asher Roth, Chuck Inglish, Dre Cat @ the Irenic (all ages, doors at 7 p.m., 10 p.m. curfew)
  • Huey Lewis and the News @ Grandstand, San Diego County Fair
  • Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers, featuring Edie Brickell @ Humphrey's Concerts By the Bay
  • Tiki Tuesday @ Bar Pink
  • Black P----, Mothership, Red Wizard @ Soda Bar
  • An Evening With the Moves @ Sycamore Den
  • Steal Dawn @ Rock On Stage, San Diego County Fair
  • Super Diamond @ Paddock Series, San Diego County Fair
  • Bad Penny & the Pistols, Herb & Hanson, Last Call Romance @ Tin Can

  • Dreamcaste and guests @ Che Cafe
  • Michele Lundeen @ Tio Leo's
  • DJ Ramsey @ The Office
  • Big City Dawgs @ Henry's Pub
  • High Tech Tuesdays @ Kava Lounge
