I think most musicians aspire to some level of success. Not having to work a day job to create music -- and maybe to get big enough to successfully tour and fill arenas with devoted fans who sing along to their music. Sometimes, however, after all of that success, an artisit just wants to go back to playing small bars to take them back to where they started. I imagine that when Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio plays at Bar Pink tonight, he's going to find some devoted fans singing along to his tunes with a voice that fills the room many times over. It's going to be one of those special shows that fans will talk about for a long time to come.
