There are few bands more buzzed about in the music press today than Alabama Shakes. The young band made several Bands to Watch lists for 2012, including notable press coverage by the likes of KCRW and NPR, and even created a stir on music critic Bob Lefsetz's Lefsetz Letter. The terms authentic and real deal have been used, and the band has even been glorified as evidence that true music does exist, and this, all before Alabama Shakes even releases their first official record. Well, to me it sounds like a bunch of platitudes as I know that real music exists, but I have the demos, and I have to agree that Alabama Shakes seem to have something special going on. Tonight at the Belly Up, I suppose we'll find out just how much of the "real deal" these youngsters are.
