Sounds Like San Diego: Feb. 23

Sunday is great example of how you don't need a lot of choices to make for a great night. Soda Bar will be filled with the beautiful vocals of Marissa Nadler, a Boston native with half a dozen albums under her belt. The mezzo-soprano writes music evoking dreamy landscapes with a darker edge, and her latest effort, Sacred Bones, was produced by Randall Dunn, who is known more for producing doom and drone metal bands than singer/songwriters. I've had the pleasure of working for Marissa in the past, and she's incredibly sweet onstage and off-. Around town, you can catch a full show from the John Butler Trio at the House of Blues (with hometown heroes Little Hurricane opening), in case their short Sunset Sessions set on Saturday night left you wanting more, and Lawrence Rothman performs at the Casbah.

  • John Butler Trio, Little Hurricane @ House of Blues
