Today is Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, a traditional day of revelry before the beginning of Lent. While there are Mardi Gras-specific events, including the annual block party in the Gaslamp Quarter, my job is to continue to tell you about live music. If masks and beads and hurricanes aren't your thing, you probably already know that Tuesday night is a solid night of rock & roll, with Built to Spill performing a free show at the Hard Rock Hotel (with RSVP), Gomez returning with a show at the Belly Up, and my favorite troublemakers, Surfer Blood, performing at UCSD's Porter's Pub. Personally I love all three, and since the shows are scattered across the county, I know I will probably have to pick just one, but the decision won't come easy.
