A white buffalo is considered a sacred symbol in Native American folklore, so when the White Buffalo returns to the Casbah tonight, you'll certainly understand why Jake Smith deserves the moniker. He's towering onstage and sings in a low register, and though he's a singer/songwriter, the stories he narrates in his music have a depth and beauty that sets them apart from many others in the classification. The last time he was in town, I walked in on him in the Casbah office, and, despite being slightly intimidated by his stature, he introduced himself and couldn't have been a nicer guy. It makes me glad that he keeps on coming back.
