Sometimes I get a little bit over anxious when it comes to the weekend. I like to think that San Diego weekends start on Thursday night, but in reality, Friday is when it all begins.
And so this Friday kicks off a series of showcases of bands that are nominated for the San Diego Music Awards. Perhaps it would've made more sense to have these showcases before voting ended, but who am I to squabble about the little things?
You can catch a great show at the Casbah, headlined by Mrs. Magician. Whether exagerrated or not, I'd like to believe this band is solely responsible for bringing John Reis' Swami Records out of a lengthy hiatus.
You can't go wrong with that show, but if you're still searching, Colin Clyne is performing in North County at the Museum of Making Music, Casino Pauma hosts the finals of the Battle of the Fans, and the Amandas perform at the Whistle Stop. That's just a taste of Friday's options which means that, no matter where you go, it's a very good night.
