Oftentimes I'm torn about what shows to attend in San Diego, but I have indie-folky-rock leanings, so I'm  usually deciding between the Casbah, Soda Bar, the Griffin or Tin Can. On Friday, however, the Belly Up and House of Blues are going head-to-head with two outstanding shows. When Charles Bradley last performed in town, it was at the Casbah and had the pleasure of working for him. After the show, he stayed for more than an hour signing autographs, taking photos and giving every person who spoke to him a massive, warm embrace. It was a completely uplifting experience, and no doubt the show at the Belly Up will be the same. On the other hand, Austin's Polyphonic Spree had a several-year hiatus before releasing some material in 2012 and 2013, and their tour found them on an uphill battle to be remembered for their cultlike and many-member performances. After that show, a meet-and-greet with the band promised new material, and with a full-length out, you can expect a religious experience without the religion. Tough call. Both shows are definite winners.
