Punch Brothers fight the blues with bluegrass at Observatory North Park on Wednesday.

There are a ton of great shows on Wednesday, and I'm not going to try to yank your chain, because mostly I feel like April Fools' Day is just an excuse for misbehavior and poorly thought-out pranks and social media posts. So let's just skip it and talk about some stuff. First of all, Punch Brothers are playing at the Observatory in North Park. The last time they were here, they sold out the Belly Up, so this is a well-deserved increase in venue size, and there are still some tickets available for the show. Meanwhile, the Hatchet Brothers are playing at Java Joe's. When I saw this announced, a giant "OMG!" entered my brain because the legendary combination of Frank Lee Drennen (of Loam) and Gregory Page used to play every Wednesday at the Ould Sod, and the nights were always amazing. This is kind of a big deal. Around town, you have Ed Kowalczyk (of Live) at the Belly Up, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of "Throwing Copper." Locals the Random Folk play at Casbah, and Maroon 5 bring their concert spectacle to Viejas Arena as well.
