SoundDiego @ SxSW

SoundDiego's Eric Page goes south to catch SD's finest

SoundDiego is trekking to Austin, Texas, on Thursday for this year’s SxSW film and music festival to get a firsthand look at some of San Diego’s up-and-comers.

Likely more accurately categorized as a sonic expo, the music portion of SxSW rages on for the second half of the three-week cultural gathering and features performances from artists imported from around the world. Each year, musicians are launched into the limelight due to their exposure at the event.

San Diego’s contingent at SxSW this year is a mix of new blood and resident regulars. Scene stalwarts Blackout Party will lurk in the shadows of their dark takes on classic rock themes, while electro-pop young guns Hills Like Elephants and Okapi Sun will attempt to outshine the hordes of their drum-machine-equipped contemporaries.

We’re excited to note that SoundDiego LIVE alumni the Burning of Rome -- as well as the familiar faces of surf-punk magistrates the Creepy Creeps and accredited Canadian-born singer/songwriter Steve Poltz -- will be bringing an unmistakable SoCal atmosphere to the showcase stages Austin. Look forward to coverage of all of these homegrown acts and many more here on SoundDiego this weekend.

SoundDiego's correspondents will be joined in Austin by Mat Bates and Andrew Rowley of Rancho Bernardo-based Slacker Radio, Christy Taylor of 91x fame and FM 94/9’s local hero Tim Pyles. So keep your ears peeled for updates from any of your favorite SD outlets.
